Lit by Kaye Gray (your 'favourite eldest daughter') 4th December 2020
A real-life superhero, that is my pop,
Against all other dads, you come out top.
Over the years, you taught me a great deal,
Like white-knuckle lessons, with me at the wheel!
And late nights helping me with my maths,
While always patient and full of laughs.
Thank you for a childhood filled with such fun...
Tennis, rounders, and bike-rides in the sun.
Dinghy tipping and being buried in the sand,
Climbing hills and trees while holding your hand.
In a snazzy shirt, you were ‘Christmas Dinner King,’
Beef that, “melts in your mouth,” – you never failed to bring!
You were the games referee and quiz show master,
Our Monopoly banker – no one added up faster!
You were the life and soul of the party, who loved a song and dance,
With a wicked sense of humour – cracking jokes at any chance!
Your life’s ambition was to bring joy and to protect,
You were a charitable, selfless man, who I love and respect.
Without your loving guidance, I would not have grown,
To be tolerant and accepting, just like you had shown.
I’m always grateful and so proud to call you my dad,
(- apart from when you had that eyebrow piercing fad!)
You’re exactly the type of person who I always try to be,
Thank you for being you always being there for me.
I love you, Pops. x x x x x x x x
